Full-time (scheduled 72 hrs or more per pay period) Job Definition Job Description SCOPE OF POSITION The Laboratory Technical Specialist is responsible for assisting the Clinical Laboratory's Section(s) manager to assure efficient utilization of personnel productive workflow in the assigned clinical area.
The Specialist will serve as a positive role model both interdepartmentally and interdepartmentally and is cooperative with our external customers/clients.
The Specialist is a liaison between staff and management to communicate schedule needs and potential problems that may have far-reaching implications.
The Specialist will perform procedures involving indirect patient contact with all groups based upon experience and training, additional procedures may include therapeutic phlebotomy procedures on adult and geriatric patients as well as phlebotomy procedures on neonate, child, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patients.
The Specialist will assume a leadership role in the proper operations and preventative operations of all mechanical, electronic, and computer equipment within the section.
This individual will advise and recommend new methodology reagents and/or instruments, and aid in the development of new policy and procedures as well as assuring that all staff is properly trained and can demonstrate competency.
The Specialist may provide support for computer updates and validation within the assigned section.
The Specialist is encouraged to initiate and serve on Process Improvement Teams and committees.
The Specialist may be requested to take On-Call.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE Knowledge and skill sufficient to plan and carry out all assigned laboratory testing is required.
Assignments require an in depth knowledge of theoretical, mechanical and computerized applications.
This includes skill in applying this knowledge to solve complex problems referred by staff technologists and other laboratory personnel, the expertise to evaluate, modify existing and implement new test procedures.
Knowledge of quality control, preventive maintenance and instrumentation is required.
Knowledge of certifying and accreditation agency regulations sufficient to assure section compliance with all agencies is required.
This includes the ability to insure that proficiency testing is satisfactorily performed in order to maintain laboratory accreditation status.
Requires computer literacy, including the ability to effectively use word processing spreadsheet software.
Training can be provided for these skills.
The Laboratory Technical Specialist responsible for the oversight of clinical trial testing for the State of New York must meet The State of New York Department of Health Part 58-1 of 10 NYCRR Clinical Laboratories Standards 58-1.
4, Qualifications of laboratory supervisor.
Valid and active Medical Technologist licensure in appropriate state Valid and active Medical Laboratory Supervisor licensure in appropriate state Holding a General or Specialist National Certification is highly desirable INDLT Compensation Location and Work Requirements Work Schedule:

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
